Silver Lakes is a private, gated estate east of Pretoria, organised around a small chain of lakes. The plot guidelines favour single- and double-storey residences set back from the street, with consistent rooflines and a planted streetscape. Skydouny's approach here honours the rhythm of the estate without producing a house that disappears into it — full-height glazing, deep eaves, and considered material palettes have proved the most natural way through.

Skydouny submits to the Silver Lakes design review process on every project here and treats the estate's architectural review committee as a creative partner rather than an obstacle. The committee's lens — colour, mass, roof pitch, fenestration — is one the studio shares.

Silver Lakes families come to Skydouny for one of three reasons: an old home on a strong stand they want to rebuild, a vacant stand they've been holding, or a recent purchase that needs a full ground-up. The studio handles all three, and the discipline is the same — one site at a time, one foreman, the principal on site weekly.
